In order to combat the persistent flies and mosquitoes in our backyard, we got this. It will kill flies, but it usually merely stuns them, leaving you to either smash them or find another way to get rid of them. Firstly, unless absolutely necessary, I prefer not to use harsh chemicals. Boric acid, diatomaceous earth, and washing will work for less harmful pests. For nests outside the house, a pressure washer or super soaker with dishwater works well. A nest of yellowjackets was constructed in my bay window's ceiling. They entered the residence by drilling through the drywall. Over the next week, the house was home to scores of yellowjackets, both dead and alive. I attempted to use the vacuum hose to remove them, but even when I struck a wall, they would swarm outside, making it difficult to get a good swarm to come inside (to the suction). Since the nest is inside the walls and ceiling and is not exposed, using spray or soapy water is ineffective. I thus placed an order for a squeeze duster and a bottle of delta dust. All my first attempt accomplished was to incite their desire for my death. Since this gives no knockdown, I expected them to swarm, so I left the area. Sure enough, dozens of them swarmed inside. A few dead bugs remained on the floor a few hours later, and they continued to emerge and exit.
